A district located south of Ginza and west of Tsukiji. Shinbashi was the Tokyo terminus of the first railway in Japan in 1872.

Adjacent to the east side of Tokyo Station. The area was named after the 17th century Dutch adventurer Jan Joosten. His name was pronounced yan yosuten in Japanese (short version: Yayosu) and the Yaesu side of Tokyo Station is also named for him.

It is located just outside the central area of Shibuya. Historically, people coming into Tokyo from the countryside would stop in Sangenjaya for a rest before entering the heart of the city. This is where the area got its name, since Sangenjaya means “three tea houses”.
